Set up the sclisten extension
The extension lets sclisten see what you're playing on SoundCloud, so your friends can hear it too. You only do this once. It takes about 3 minutes.

Download the extension
Click the button. A file called sclisten.zip saves to your Downloads folder.

Unzip it and put it somewhere safe
Windows: right-click the zip, choose Extract All…, then Extract.
Mac: double-click the zip.You'll get a folder called sclisten. Move it somewhere you won't delete it by accident, like your Documents folder.
Important: keep this folder. The extension runs from it, so if you delete or move it later, the extension stops working. You don't need to open anything inside it. -

Open your extensions page
Copy this address, paste it into the address bar at the top of your browser, and press Enter. (Browsers don't let websites open this page with a normal link, so it has to be pasted.)

Turn on Developer mode
Find the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of the page and turn it on.
A new row of buttons appears once it's on. That's how you know it worked.

Click “Load unpacked” and choose the folder
Click Load unpacked. In the window that opens, go to where you saved it, click the sclisten folder once, then click Select Folder (on Mac: Select).
See "Manifest file is missing"? You picked the wrong folder, usually the one around it. Pick the sclisten folder that has manifest.json and a folder called app inside. -

Pin it to your toolbar
Click the puzzle piece icon at the top right of your browser, then click the pin next to sclisten. Now the sclisten eye sits in your toolbar where you can reach it.

Connect it to your account
Open your dashboard and click Create connection code, then Copy code. Click the sclisten eye in your toolbar, paste the code into the box, and click Connect.
It should now say Connected as @yourname. Keep your code private, since anyone with it could update your room. If it ever leaks, just make a new one; that turns the old one off. -

Play something and go live
Open soundcloud.com in this same browser and play a song. Within a few seconds, Now playing on your dashboard fills in and your room is live automatically. Send friends your link!
You can keep the SoundCloud tab in the background. Just don't close it.
You're ready to go live
From now on, just open SoundCloud and play music. Your room goes live on its own. You can turn it off from your dashboard anytime.

A popup says “Disable developer mode extensions”
Chrome shows this sometimes when it starts, because sclisten isn't from the Chrome Web Store yet. Close it with the X. Don't click Disable, or sclisten turns off (if that happens, turn it back on at your extensions page).
“Manifest file is missing or unreadable”
You picked the folder around the extension, or the zip file itself. Click Load unpacked again and choose the sclisten folder that has manifest.json inside.
Now playing never fills in
Refresh your SoundCloud tab (it has to be opened after the extension was added), then play a song. Make sure you're on soundcloud.com in the same browser, not the SoundCloud app.
The sclisten icon shows a problem
Click the icon to read it. Most of the time the fix is to make a new connection code on your dashboard and paste it in again.
sclisten disappeared from my extensions
The sclisten folder was probably moved or deleted. Put it back (or download it again), then repeat steps 5 to 7.
How do I update to a new version?
Download the new zip, unzip it, and replace your old sclisten folder with the new one. Then open your extensions page and click the little reload arrow on the sclisten card. You stay connected.
Can I do this on my phone, Safari, or Firefox?
Not yet. Going live needs Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera on a computer. Your friends can listen on anything, including phones.
